With 20M+ monthly users, ESPN Cricinfo offered unmatched cricket content but suffered from information overload and poor navigation. The challenge was to simplify the experience while preserving its depth.

Problem
Research across Reddit, Twitter, app reviews, and internal feedback revealed consistent issues with information overload, cluttered navigation,
and poor content hierarchy, leading many users to prefer competitors like Cricbuzz for quicker score updates. As one user put it,
"Too much information is dumped when we only require a few things."

Homepage Redesign
The homepage was redesigned to reduce clutter by simplifying headers, removing unnecessary metadata, improving typography and spacing,
repositioning hero content, and introducing a cleaner editorial hierarchy. Cards became lighter, easier to scan and more consistent
with the design system.

Match page Redesign
The Match Centre became the primary destination for live cricket. I simplified the scorecard, reduced visual noise, collapsed secondary information, repositioned advertisements, removed unnecessary actions and improved spacing to make live updates significantly easier to follow.

Design System
We collaborated with the engineering team to understand the system constraints and identified the need to map legacy colour and typography tokens to the new design variables before handoff.

Adding components to the system
Once the token mapping was complete, we built a foundational design system comprising core components such as buttons, chips, inputs, and navigation patterns that could be reused across both Web and Mobile. As the redesign progressed, we realised that a component library alone wasn't enough—we also needed page-level patterns to standardise complex layouts like scorecards, match centres, article pages, and live commentary, ensuring consistency and faster design iterations across the product.

Dark Mode
Supporting both Light and Dark modes ensured a consistent experience across user preferences.
